Boston PD Homicide Kevin Kosiorek, Boston Crime Lab This three day training program is an in depth analysis of actual homicide cases, which will give participants the opportunity to follow the progression of the investigations from the initial response to the prosecution phase.
The course is designed to give the investigator a greater knowledge of specific homicide investigative techniques including; processing the murder scene; evidence collection, preservation and analysis; surviving victim/witness, and suspect interviews, and; successful trial preparation and prosecution. Attendees will review photographs from several actual homicide scenes to identify the leads that were obtained from those scenes and how the investigators followed up on those leads. Participants will also receive detailed instruction on forensic evidence collection, preservation and analysis from experienced crime laboratory personnel and discuss how that evidence was utilized in the identification/prosecution of defendants in those cases. Investigators will take part in practical exercises in which they will work as homicide investigative teams to utilize the case facts and evidence gathered, along with crime scene and autopsy photographs, to reconstruct the crime that occurred and identify potential suspects. Actual homicide suspect interviews will be reviewed to allow investigators to analyze the subtle nuances of suspect interrogations. Participants should bring at least one case file from their jurisdictions for discussion.
