Designed for dispatchers who are thrown into a negotiator’s role by telephone or other electronic means, this 2-day course is designed to provide basic knowledge and techniques used in crisis negotiations and crisis intervention that include the same techniques and training used by the International Association of Hostage Negotiators. The role of dispatchers in hostage/crisis situations differ from department to department. Larger departments may have trained negotiators within their agency, but most agencies do not. Sometimes, until other resources are located and arrive on the scene, the negotiator may be the dispatcher. To the untrained individual, these situations can be very tense and extremely stressful and how phone conversations are handled, can be the key to a successful resolution. Actual role playing scenarios will be played out in this course to bring a sense of realism to the course in order to prepare the call taker for these situations.
