Momentum is a power tool for determining speeds of vehicles in a collision. Used correctly the estimated speeds can be very accurate. Used incorrectly the speeds can be grossly misleading. This course is a review, designed to assist the reconstructionist in better understanding the basic concepts of linear momentum including but not limited to determining angles before and after a collision, properly determining post (after) collision speeds and most importantly, how to determine the overall accuracy of the results. Entry Level Standards: Officers should have completed at minimum the advanced crash investigation or reconstruction and have good math skills with a basic understanding of linear momentum. Officers will also need to have the ability to draw scaled diagrams based upon field measurements of accident scenes and vehicles. Tools Required
