Note:   While not required, it is highly recommended, that attendees to this course attend SRR's Introduction to Internet Cases Involving Child Exploitation Course prior to participating in this advanced class.

This two-day "hands-on" course will focus on developing techniques and protocol for law enforcement officers to successfully conduct online undercover investigations in dealing with sexual predators.  Officers, through lecture and "hands-on" interaction with predators online, will develop the skills necessary to conduct future investigations. 

Particpants will be taught how to chat online with pedohiles in such a capacity that pedophiles believe that the investigator is a child and as such, prey worth courting.  Strategies will be developed to recognize probable cause, write affadavits and subsequently, if warranted, to make an arrest.

Documenting evidence and case preparation will be prioritized as a weak case will only turn a predator loose; back to soliciting sex with what may be a real child.

Who should attend:      Any law enforcement officer that will be performing online investigations with the goal of developing probable cause leading to the arrest of sexual predators, or those individuals responsible in a supervisory capacity of those investigators.   

Instructor(s):   

Lead Instructor: Det. James McLaughlin, is considered to be the best at what he does in the Nation and that is to arrest pedophiles. McLaughlin has been a member of the Keene, NH Hampshire Police Department since 1981. He is presently assigned to the Investigation Unit of the Keene Police Department and the majority of his work deals with crimes of child sexual and physical abuse, child exploitation and other sex crimes. He has personally conducted in excess of 1000 investigations resulting in criminal charges of child molestation, sexual assault and exploitation, interviewed in excess of 2000 victims, applied for and received in excess of 300 search warrants and interviewed in excess of 100 admitted pedophiles. He and his agency have arrested and convicted over 550 sexual predators.
