Every day across our nation, goods are moved by commercial motor vehicles to their final destinations.  Thousands and thousands of miles are covered and despite the safe driving records of most operators, crashes do occur and law enforcement must investigate.  According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, from 1998-2002, large trucks were involved in 29,459 fatal and non-fatal crashes in New England and New York alone.

This comprehensive 3-day course, will consist of extensive classroom and “hands-on” training in the area of commercial motor vehicle crash inspections, investigations and crash reconstructions so that following the class, the police investigator can focus on crash causation.

Attendees should have completed SRR’s 80-hour Basic Crash Investigation or its equivalence as the following subjects and more will be covered:

• Basic Math and Math Calculations;
• Basic Crash Dynamics;
• Commercial Vehicle Reconstruction Formulas;
• Tip Over Formula;
• Minimum Speed Formula;
• Momentum Formula;
• Commercial Motor Vehicle Regulations;
• Inspection of Commercial Motor Vehicles including: Buses, Straight Trucks, Tractor Trailer Combinations, Bulk Packages and AOBRD - Automatic Onboard Recording Devices (driver’s logs).
• Field Training Day;
• Hands-on Inspections and Skid Testing;
• Physical Evidence Collection; 
• Preservation of Physical Evidence; and
• Crash Reports.
