This 80-hour course is designed for those officers who wish to advance to the level of reconstructionist. The course contains reconstruction methodologies, derivation of equations and the knowledge necessary to eventually qualify as an expert. The training will also focus on the sensitivity of the methods to uncertainties in field data and vehicle dynamics. Interested students should have completed SRR’s Basic Crash Investigation and SRR’s Advanced Crash Investigation or their equivalence as a prerequisite.

This highly technical course requires a strong background in mathematics on the part of the attendee. However, attendees of SRR’s Basic Crash Investigation and Advanced Crash Investigation 80-hour courses will find that this training builds on the knowledge they gained in these two previously attended courses. Some of the topics discussed in this course are:
  • Conservation of Linear Momentum;
  • In-line Impacts;
  • Oblique Impacts;
  • Utility Pole Impacts;
  • Multiple Departure Momentum Analysis;
  • Vector Analysis;
  • Pedestrian Collision Reconstruction;
  • Derivation of Equations, Including: Kinetic Energy Formula, Minimum Speed Formula, Combined Speeds, Critical Speed Equation and Yaw Radius Equation.
  • Use of Quadratic Equation;
  • Motorcycle Speed Estimates;
  • Commercial Vehicle Collisions;
  • Fundamentals of Reconstruction Computer Software Programs; and
  • Case Studies.
