Pedestrian and Bicycle crashes are often investigated poorly. This course is designed to instruct crash investigators in specific disciplines of investigation and documentation of evidence from these types of collisions. Specific factors related to these special types of crashes will be discussed and there will be detailed instruction on identification of roadway markings, vehicle damage, pedestrian/cyclist injuries and bicycle damage and how they apply to the reconstruction. Specific mathematical models and formulas will be demonstrated, defined and practicedand human factors will be discussed and reviewed as to their relationship to the causation of the collision. Ultimately, the crash investigator will have a comprehensive understanding of how to collect, interpret and reach reasonable conclusions based upon their reconstruction of the events. This understanding will be challenged after the viewing of separately staged pedestrian and bicycle crashes at approximately 30-35 mph that attendees will have to investigate and reconstruct. Investigators should have completed SRR’s Basic Crash Investigation or its equivalence and have basic math skills. They will also need to have the ability to draw scaled diagrams based upon field measurements of crash scenes and vehicles. The following subjects, plus many more will be discussed:
